Even though Chicago experienced one of the coldest winters ever with over two dozen days below zero Fahrenheit (I even recorded a frigid -56F on a particularly cold morning!), averages do not lie, the earth is warming. Climates have naturally fluctuated over the Earth’s long history. The impact humans have on this current upswing is much debated, but regardless of your position, one must still focus on the matter at hand. Almost 40% of the population in the U.S. lives on coasts, mostly in dense cities at that. We must take steps to limit our ‘footprint’ per say and protect our planet against its ever-changing self.
